Arc Raiders is starting to push players into a very different rhythm, and honestly, that changes the whole mood of a run. Instead of rewarding the old habit of stuffing your bag with random scrap and slipping out early, the game now seems built around pressure, combat, and output. That's why so many players are suddenly paying more attention to damage numbers than to what's sitting in their inventory. Even when people talk about ARC Raiders Items, the bigger conversation now is how to earn progression faster by actually fighting. It's a harder system, no question, but it also makes each Expedition feel more like a real test and less like a scavenging trip.The number getting passed around most is 100,000 total damage during an Expedition cycle. Hit that, and you get five bonus Expedition points. Simple on paper, rough in practice. That target tells you exactly what the developers want from players: stay active, engage the machines, and stop treating every match like a stealth-only loot run. If you go in without a plan, the grind feels heavy. But once you know what counts and where your damage is coming from, the whole thing starts to make more sense. It's less about surviving forever and more about making your time in raid actually count.
If you mostly play solo, you'll probably end up hearing the same advice again and again: hunt Bastions. There's a reason for that. Players have worked out that one Bastion takes around 5,000 damage to bring down, so if you're trying to reach the top reward bracket, you're looking at roughly 20 kills. That sounds like a slog, and sometimes it is, but Bastions are reliable. They're tanky, they show up often, and they give you a clean way to measure your progress mid-run. You don't need to guess whether your damage is good enough. You can feel it. A few Bastion fights in, you'll know if the raid is worth extending or if it's smarter to reset and go again.
That said, nobody's locked into one perfect route. Damage from smaller ARC units still adds up, and high-value targets can swing a run in your favour if you're ready for them. A lot of players will naturally build progress just by taking fights instead of dodging every sound on the map. That's probably the best part of the new system. It leaves room for different playstyles, even if Bastions are the easiest benchmark. You can play aggressively, play methodically, or just stay flexible and react to what the map gives you. What matters is that your raid has purpose now. If you're chasing points, stacking kills and smart target selection will usually matter more than dragging out a bag full of Rare Material while avoiding half the action on the map.
